Website design and SEO packages in 2026: what they actually include

Website design and SEO packages combine custom site build with ongoing organic search work into a single engagement. The packages I have seen offered in 2026 range from 5,000 USD per month bundles to 150,000 USD all-in twelve-month engagements, and the work shipped at each tier varies dramatically. The package label tells you almost nothing; what matters is which specific deliverables are in scope and which are upsell-priced.

I run Seahawk Media. We have shipped over 12,000 sites since 2018, mostly as bundled design + SEO engagements. This is the operator view of what should actually be in a website design and SEO package, what red-flags should kill any shortlist, and what the realistic price ranges look like.

What a real package should include

A serious website design and SEO package in 2026 has six core deliverables, and any package missing any of these is incomplete:

1. Strategy and keyword research before design

Without this, the design serves no organic search purpose and the agency is making it up at launch. The keyword strategy should pre-date the wireframes by weeks.

2. Custom design built to performance constraints

A design that is going to rank has constraints baked in: font budget, image budget, JavaScript budget, mobile-first thinking. Templated design with SEO bolted on later is a different (cheaper, lower-ceiling) product.

3. Custom-coded front-end on a known framework

WordPress with custom theme, Next.js, Astro, or Nuxt. Page builders (Elementor, Bricks) are fine when properly configured but produce heavier output. The framework should match the team and the three-year horizon.

4. Technical SEO foundations at build time

Schema markup at the component level. URL structure designed for the keyword strategy. Internal linking automation in the templates. Build-time SEO linter in CI. Hreflang where applicable. None of this is retrofittable cheaply.

5. Content production beyond the launch site

A real package includes ongoing content production after launch, ideally 4 to 12 pieces per month for the first 6 to 12 months. Without this, the site has the SEO foundations but no ranking content.

6. Monthly written reporting plus quarterly strategy reviews

Reporting that includes Search Console traffic, GA4 conversions, ranking changes, AI Overview citation share, and what failed alongside what worked. Without this, you have no idea whether the package is delivering.

What is usually missing from cheap packages

Five things commonly absent from packages priced below 25K USD all-in for the build:

Pre-build keyword research. Cheap packages start with design and bolt SEO on later. The performance ceiling is fundamentally lower.

Custom design. Cheap packages use a starter theme or page-builder template. Real custom design is 8K to 30K USD on its own.

Ongoing content production. Cheap packages launch a site and stop. Without content production, organic growth flatlines after launch.

Technical SEO at build time. Cheap packages add Yoast and call it done. Real technical SEO is build-time engineering.

Senior bandwidth. Cheap packages are run by junior account managers. Senior strategy is the most expensive single component of any real engagement.

What is usually overpriced in expensive packages

Three things you may be overpaying for at the 100K+ USD package tier:

Multiple-layer agency hierarchy

Account manager, project manager, strategist, designer, lead engineer, junior engineer, QA, content manager. Mid-market boutique studios deliver the same outcome with three or four senior people. The hierarchy adds overhead, not output.

Fixed-scope packaging

Packages with rigid monthly deliverables ("8 articles, 12 backlinks, 1 audit") sound substantial but are usually the same package shipped to every client regardless of fit. A bespoke engagement adjusts scope to what your specific site needs.

Brand workshops as a separate paid product

Boutique studios bundle discovery into the engagement. Enterprise agencies often charge 10 to 50K USD for a "brand discovery workshop" before the actual engagement begins. Sometimes this is justified; often it is sales-side optimisation.

Real price ranges in 2026

The four package tiers I see across the market in 2026:

Templated bundle (under 15K USD)

Page-builder theme, basic on-page SEO, light content. Right for small businesses, brochure sites with limited organic ambition. Wrong for anyone where organic search is part of the strategy.

Custom WordPress + 6-month SEO (25K to 50K USD)

Custom theme on managed hosting, schema, build-time SEO foundations, 6 to 12 pieces of post-launch content, monthly reporting. The sweet spot for B2B SaaS marketing sites and content-led businesses.

Headless or fully custom + 12-month SEO (50K to 150K USD)

Custom-coded front-end on Next.js or Astro, WordPress as headless CMS or Sanity / Supabase data layer, ongoing content production, technical SEO at scale, quarterly strategy reviews. Right for performance-critical sites and product surfaces.

Enterprise bundle (150K USD and up)

Multi-stakeholder engagement, formal procurement, multi-language, multi-market. Right when business scale and stakeholder politics justify the overhead.

How to evaluate a package proposal

Five questions to ask any agency proposing a website design and SEO package:

1. What is the keyword strategy and when in the engagement does it ship. The right answer is "weeks 1 to 3, before any design work." Wrong answers shift it later.

2. Who specifically writes the content and what is their seniority. The right answer names a person and references their portfolio. Wrong answers say "our content team."

3. What does the technical SEO scope include at build time. The right answer is specific: schema, URL structure, internal linking automation, build-time linter. Wrong answers are generic.

4. What does month 7 onwards look like once the included retainer ends. The right answer is a specific care plan or retainer scope. Wrong answers shift to "we can discuss that closer to the time."

5. Which previous client engagement is most similar to mine. The right answer names the client, walks through the brief, the work, the outcome, and the lessons. Wrong answers cite a generic case study from the website.

When to skip packages and unbundle

Bundled packages are usually the right call. Three scenarios where unbundling beats packaging:

You already have a designer

If the design relationship is locked in, hire an SEO retainer separately rather than paying the bundled premium for design you do not need.

You have an existing site that is working

A site that ranks reasonably and just needs editorial work does not warrant a rebuild. Hire a content + technical SEO retainer instead.

Your scope is genuinely small

A 5-page brochure site does not benefit from a full bundled package. Either templated approach plus a small SEO retainer, or a focused custom build with a 3-month SEO sprint rather than 12.

Bottom line

Website design and SEO packages range from 5K to 200K USD in 2026, and the package label is almost meaningless on its own. Match the package tier to your business stage. Confirm the six core deliverables are actually included, not upsell-priced. Push back on rigid scoping in either direction.

At Seahawk Media we run bundled engagements starting at 25,000 USD all-in. The discovery call is free and the recommendation is honest. We will tell you when bundled is not the right call for your specific situation, and what to do instead.
