The best cloud hosting in 2026, ranked by the data and by me

Managed cloud and value cloud picks, powered by HostList's HostScore, with an honest verdict on each and a clear line on cloud vs a VPS.

For cloud hosting in 2026, Cloudways is my managed-cloud pick, ChemiCloud and InMotion the smoothest managed entry, and OVHcloud and Hetzner the value picks at scale. Liquid Web wins for business-critical workloads. Below is each, ranked by HostScore with my take.

Data: HostList.io (HostScore), last updated 28 June 2026. A curated subset of HostList's cloud rankings, picked by me.

My cloud picks

  1. 1

    Cloudways

    90/100

4.2 (200 Google reviews) Saint Julians, Malta since 2011

The managed-cloud pick. It sits on top of DigitalOcean, AWS, Google Cloud and others, giving you cloud scalability with a managed layer on top. An agency favourite for growing sites that want cloud power without a DevOps hire.

  2. 2

    ChemiCloud

    93/100

5 (118 Google reviews) Middletown, USA since 2016

Tops the whole field on HostScore, with a cloud tier on a fast NVMe + LiteSpeed stack and a 4.8-to-5.0 support reputation. The smoothest managed-cloud entry point.

  3. 3

    InMotion Hosting

    92/100

4.1 (374 Google reviews) Virginia Beach, USA since 2001

A long-standing US independent with strong cloud and VPS offerings, good support, and honest pricing. A dependable cloud pick that is not tied to a single hyperscaler.

  4. 4

    Liquid Web

    85/100

4.3 (140 Google reviews) Lansing, USA since 1997

Managed cloud for businesses that need uptime guarantees and real support. More premium, built for stores and apps where downtime costs money.

  5. 5

    OVHcloud

    83/100

4.5 (54 Google reviews) London, UK since 1999

European cloud at scale with honest pricing and a serious global network. Leans self-managed, so it is the value pick if you are comfortable with infrastructure.

  6. 6

    ScalaHosting

    79/100

4.9 (134 Google reviews) Dallas, USA

Managed cloud on its own SPanel, a 4.9 from customers, and no cPanel licensing. Strong value for managed cloud without per-account fees.

  7. 7

    Hetzner Online

    70/100

    Nuremberg, Germany since 1997

The European value benchmark: powerful cloud and dedicated servers out of Germany at prices that undercut the hyperscalers. Unmanaged and developer-focused.

  8. 8

    HIPAA Vault

    74/100

5 (20 Google reviews) Wyoming, USA since 1997

A specialist: HIPAA-compliant managed cloud for healthcare workloads, with a perfect 5.0. Niche, but the pick when compliance is the hard requirement.

Managed cloud vs raw IaaS

You can rent raw cloud infrastructure from AWS, Google Cloud, or Hetzner and configure everything yourself, or you can use a managed-cloud host that sits on top and handles the server work. Cloudways, ChemiCloud, and Liquid Web are managed; Hetzner and raw OVHcloud are closer to do-it-yourself. Unless you have a DevOps function in-house, managed cloud gets you the same scalability with far less to break.

Cloud hosting vs a VPS

A VPS is a fixed slice of a single machine: simple and cheap, but it cannot grow past that machine and it goes down if the machine does. Cloud hosting pools many servers, so it scales resources on demand and survives a single failure. Pick a VPS for predictable, contained workloads and cloud when you expect spikes, growth, or need resilience. See my VPS picks for the other side of this choice.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best cloud hosting in 2026?

Cloudways for managed cloud across multiple providers, ChemiCloud and InMotion for a smooth managed entry, OVHcloud and Hetzner for value at scale, and Liquid Web for business-critical workloads.

What is the difference between cloud hosting and a VPS?

A VPS is a fixed slice of one server. Cloud hosting spreads your site across a pool of servers, so it can scale resources up or down and survive a single machine failing. Cloud is more elastic; a VPS is simpler and often cheaper at small scale.

Is managed cloud worth it over raw AWS or Google Cloud?

For most teams without a DevOps function, yes. Managed cloud like Cloudways or ChemiCloud gives you the scalability of the hyperscalers with the server management handled. Go raw IaaS only if you have the in-house skills to run it.

Is cloud hosting good for WordPress?

Yes. Cloudways and ChemiCloud run WordPress well on cloud infrastructure. For a hands-off WordPress experience, managed WordPress hosting is simpler. See my WordPress hosting picks.
