What it is

Microsoft Entra ID (renamed from Azure AD in 2023) is Microsoft's enterprise identity platform. SSO, conditional access, MFA, B2C and B2B variants. The default for organisations that have already chosen Microsoft 365 / Azure as their core stack.

Best for

  • Microsoft-shop enterprises with existing Azure / M365 procurement
  • B2B apps selling to organisations standardised on Entra ID

When not to pick it

Skip Entra ID outside the Microsoft world. Setup and operational model assume Microsoft-stack familiarity.

My take

Right tool for Microsoft-aligned organisations. Outside that world, the alignment cost outweighs the benefit.
