What it is
Prismic is the headless CMS that pioneered the slice-as-component model — pages are composed of "slices" that are first-class components in your codebase and the editing UI. Strong on developer ergonomics and predictable component-driven authoring. Used heavily in the Next.js ecosystem.
Best for
- Next.js teams shipping marketing sites with reusable page sections
- Developer-led projects where the slice model maps cleanly to React components
- Mid-market sites needing visual page composition without the Storyblok price
When not to pick it
Skip Prismic for editorial-heavy briefs — the slice model is great for marketing pages but feels constrained for long-form articles or rich custom schemas.
My take
Prismic is the right fit for Next.js + marketing. Slice Machine integration is well-built. For editorial work pick Sanity instead.
