What it is
Storyblok is the headless CMS that pairs a developer-friendly API with a visual editor that marketing teams genuinely use. Component-block-based, with live preview as the default. Strong on multi-language and large enterprise use cases. The visual editing surface is what wins it deals against Contentful or Sanity.
Best for
- Marketing-driven teams where non-technical authors need visual control
- Multi-language sites with structured translation workflows
- Component-driven sites where each page is built from reusable blocks
When not to pick it
Skip Storyblok if your content is structurally simple — fields on a page — and a flatter CMS like Hygraph or Contentful suffices. Also skip if your developers find the block-component model a fight against their preferred way of working.
My take
Storyblok wins where the marketing team is loud and the developer is tolerant. The visual editor is genuinely useful; the API is fine. For developer-first teams Sanity or Hygraph might be cleaner.
